Making Pink Pasta Dough with Beetroot

If you think plain pasta dough is boring or you want to make pink pasta for Valentine’s Day or any other day you associate with pink, beetroot is a messy, but effective way to make pink pasta dough.

This was one of the first dyes I used for pasta and I was astonished by the intensity of the colour. My co-worker said it reminded her of huge bubble gum.

First, I used beetroot from a jar, which already has a lot of liquid in it. But then I thought that that might be water as well, additional water to the juice I mean. So I decided to extract the dye or juice from whole beetroot. I bought it peeled, though, because it already is a very messy job.
